Vista upgrade install question

As the topic summary says, I am wondering if you can choose which HDD to upgrade with Vista. For example...I'm running XP Pro on one HDD and I have a install of Vista that is corrupt beyond the ability of MS's built in repair app to fix. Does doing a upgrade install only upgrade the windows version you are currently using or does it allow you to choose which installation to upgrade?
 
If i were you i would give it a try, because you can always cancel the install if cant select which one to install it on...
