I?m using Vista Ultimate on my desktop and I?m trying to remote access from my wireless laptop. My desktop is attached by cable to my wireless router and when I try to assign my desktop an IP address I no longer can access the internet and only connect local. Any ideas or is there a setting I am missing?

I am right clicking on Network Properties from the start menu then clicking on properties on the next window I click on view status and then properties again, I am trying to assign my IP address using the Internet Protocol Ver 4(TCP/IPv4) and when I assign it, I then lose the internet connection.

Any help is appreciated.

Yes, I am assigning the same DNS address as my router. It works fine on XP PRO but I just noticed this on Ultimate.

This thing is going to give me more grey hair than I already have, Just Pinged the DNS server and OK, Pinged internet site by name and OK. Looked in the TASKBAR and did a mouse over the internet connection and quess what, connected to local and internet. Problem solved until next time.

assign a 4.2.2.[1-6] as a secondary?

i've successfully assigned an IP as well as forced it an IP by my router. i've even fixed a minor bork-up with an ipconfig/flushdns (never used it til now; never needed to)
