I thought I'd give it ago and adopt a dual boot scenario to see if Vista is any good or an OS I can work with. I remember once installing Win95 and putting Win 3.1 back on after ten minutes saying never again. How wrong I was not to try it for a bit longer as eventually it was installed and became the OS to have, same for Win98, WinME (well not ME), XP etc.

So I thought I'd embrace Vista and rather than go the whole hog and get the retail version of Ultimate for £350 i'd get the OEM version.

I have not investigated the limitations of OEM over the retail version other than having both the 32 and 64bit versions on one DVD. I'm not sure how the OEM licence may work. Will the OEM version let me upgrade my PC as many times as I want which will happen from time to time.

Thanks for your help.

Like it or not I'm pretty sure Vista will take over and be the new XP. ME was a terrible OS... 98SE was much better.
I just need to get my hands on a copy soon because I'll need to know it inside and out for work.

As far as the licensing... not sure. It's probably the same old call up MS and tell them your motherboard died so you had to replace it deal.

The only thing stopping me from ordering that from overclockers.co.uk is gaming and being unsure of exactly how many times i can install it. I was looking at it yesterday and thinking, whys retail SO much more expensive? Im missing somthing here, im not touching it until i know more.

Overclockers are gits for advertising they have it in stock when they don't really have it. The last experience of this as a new Toshiba HD-DVD Player, however, I ordered the OEM version from them to give them a chance.:) I was wondering about the amount of times you can install the OEM version I must admit. But I've taken the view that I can afford to risk £130 and use it as a test platform. The OEM versions has only one OS on the DVD I think as opposed to two on the retail.

Mem, that's encouraging and thanks for the link. I'll have a look now. (Good to hear from some forum old timers as I've not been on the forum for quite some time)

Cheers again and thanks to all that have replied. ;)

Scan.co.uk is cheaper. (But only like £1 or £2)

Well, Overclockers seem to have shipped the item so they must of had stock, which is nice to know.

Question though. Will installing Vista on the same partition as my XP installation be okay, in another directory though?

[edit]

And another.....please tell me Firefox works with Vista?
