I just got done installing Windows Vista Ultimate x64. I am positive that all of my hardware components are 64-bit compatible. However, I am unable to get the display to run the 64-bit mode, its only on 32-bit. Any ideas? I have done all the updates I can.

Are you refering to the color depth setting in the display settings? (e.g. 16bit, 32bit...). Because your certainly using the right driver, the wrong drive (32 vs 64 or 64 vs 32) won't even install on the wrong OS.

If that is what your refering to, Vista64 doesn't give you 64bit color, the max setting is still 32bit color (about 4billion choices in color per pixel)

I remember seeing a 64-bit option on the display settings when I installed the beta version a few months ago. Maybe I'm wrong, but if your right....what is the benefit of 64bit? Is it only useful to those VERY few 64bit programs and software?

Vista 64 can run most 32bit applications. Additionally it truely use 4gig (or more) of memory in your machine while Vista32 is limited (realistically) to about 3gig or less.

64bit colour would be amazing, but saddly even if you could select 64bit colour, your graphics card wouldnt be capable of outputting it and current monitors definately wouldnt be capable of displaying it. so it would be all for nought. 64bit would be like 16bit per red, green, blue and alpha. some HDTV's are only just moving up to 10 and 12bit per channel. was looking at an hitatchi plasma the other day that claimed 12bit colour reproduction or some such.... 68 billion colours!
