Vista Ultimate 64 Bit DVD

To make a long story short I own a retail upgrade copy of Vista Home Premium but I have not installed it yet as I am waiting on a new 500 Gig Hard drive to arrive tomorrow. I ordered a 64 Bit DVD but Dewy Hewy and Lewy (DHL) lost the DVD and the new disc that I reordered from MS won't ship until tomorrow and I need this system up and running by Thursday at the latest. So if I started an installation of the 64 bit Ultimate OS would it give me an option to install the 64 bit Home Premium version so I could activate it later with my retail product code?

What is the difference between an OEM 64 bit Home Premium Vista vs the retail 64 Bit Home Premium upgrade?
Would I be better served installing a 64 bit OEM Home Premium disc then activating later with my retail code?

Bottom line I don't expect to see the disc I re-ordered until then end of this week or next week and I can't wait that long.

Wow! Could you have explained it in a more complicated and mixed up way? 🙂

You need a key to install. The key determines what version gets installed (OEM, Retail, Basic, Premium, .....).
The media you use determines if it is the 32-bit version or the 64-bit version that gets installed.

If you want a temporary system, install the OS with the key you have but DO NOT activate. You will be able to use it for 30 days without activating it.

If you get the media you need by then, you can format and install using the right key and media and activate.

If this does not work for you, just state shortly what the problem is.

Perfect! That's even better.

Just remember that if you want a 64-bit OS, and you have a 32-bit DVD now, you will have to re-install when you get your 64-bit DVD.

You do not need a cd key to install. Here's a better way.

Install using your Vista Ultimate DVD. When it asks for a cd key just hit next and you will be able to choose between different versions of Vista to install. Select Home Premium and install. You will have 30 days before Vista locks you out. When you get your Vista Home Premium just right click Computer select Properties and there will be some activation settings if you scroll down. Activate your Vista copy and it will ask you to input your CD Key. Enter the Home Premium CD Key and you're done.

Great that's what I needed to hear. I have my friend's Ultimate 64 bit DVD and my 32 Bit Home Premium DVD with it's CD key. I just need to install the 64 bit edition without having to reinstall the official disc being sent by MS. I spoke to MS tech support and they told me that the Ultimate DVD would only install the Ultimate version but my friend said you could choose different versions of Vista if you didn't enter the cd key upon initial request. I plan on activating my Home premium version when DHL finds my lost disc or when I receive the new disc from MS.

quick question, I was planning to due a dual boot system with XP Media Editon and Vista Home Premium 64 should I include a Home Premiun 32 bit version?
