I have a AMD 939 x64, New (Maxtor) HD, 7600 nvid card... new HD, new Vista Ulti 64... when I try to install, the comp shuts down... clean install, no OS on the HD; can't get Vista to install...? any suggestions? Partitioned 20 meg of the 320 HD.

more info... thanks for the feedback... my comp does power off, I will try a bigger partition. the boot cycle is CD then HD... it is a 2 gig ram system.

thanks for the feedback... turns out, it was the power supply, the new 320 hd needed more juice than the old 250... changed power supply, got it to work... thanks all!

I wasn't going to reply at all.. but I'll just say that you need to post more details. And I hope you weren't serious about only giving Vista 20MB.

Shuts down? You mean it completely powers itself off?

btw, quite a few folks seem to think that 20GB isn't enough for a new Vista install. I'm seeing a lot of 30GB suggestions. Personally, I recommend a 320GB partition (single partition), but that's just me.....

Do you have 4GB of RAM? I didn't have a problem but I've heard that some systems won't install Vista when 4GB is in the computer. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929777.

I would give it 40GB of space, or more if you will be installing more than a few games.

Drex is correct. 32 bit wont install with 4 gigs installed, but will with 2. Then install the other two, understanding it will only register and 3 gigs of it. If youre using 64 bit, we need more info.

sorry for the scant details... just trying to be concise... it does power off, i will try and partition bigger if not all the 320. it has 2gig of ram, boot sequence is correct (Cd, then HD). thanks for the feedback

Sigh.. when does it power off? Can you even boot the DVD? Does anything even appear on the screen? Does the computer even POST ok? Have you used any other OS on this system before?
