vista to 7 question

I am planning on upgrading the OS on my laptop from Vista32 to 7x32. Is a clean install necessary for this?

The answer is no ........ but I will do a fresh install when Win 7 ships to consumers.

I did a W7 x86 upgrade from a 2 year old install of Vista x86 . It took about 70 minutes. I then clean installed W7 64 on a 100GB partition in less than 20 minutes

Full install, you can't upgrade x86->x64.
