So far I cant play ANYTHING. CoD2 and Lotro (which has the vista GFW logo) WILL NOT WORK!!!

Pid:3768 error vista has fits with nvlddmkm, and it looks like nothing is being done about it.

Vista does not suck for games, there are plenty of Vista users playing those games with Vista(I have played over 30 games so far in Vista x64),the nvlddmkm is Nvidia driver error message

We could do with more info like what drivers you are using ,what Vista version and PC specs.

Funny how everybody blames Vista without doing any problem solving at all.

Sure it's Nvidia's fault, but Vist still sucks for gaming. It runs games slower and there's still problems in lots of games.

There are problems in a lot of games even with XP,that's why you have things called game patches and driver updates,oh wait I see!... the game patches for XP games is Vista's fault :p

XP had the same issues when it first came out. it's all about optimization. since vista hasn't even been out a year, you should expect things not to perform *as well.* but given another year or two, games will run very well under vista.

Windows in general sucks for games, the last time I tried playing a few games I had nothing but problems. But at least on Vista whenever the nVidia driver would sh!t the bed the screen would flicker and it would get reinitialized, on XP it would just BSOD. I'll take the former any day.

Still is lame. Look like after I uninstalled CoD2 it left the shortcut and now I can't delete them because the file is gone. WTF!?

going to try Tomb Raider anniversary next.

There's nothing wrong with Vista, just nVidia's drivers that suck balls. In some benchmarks Vista is actually a bit faster than XP in high detail situations, probably because its virtualized VRAM takes a more elegant performance hit when the going gets tough.

Windows in general sucks for games,
I'm sorry but that's just plain false. Windows is the best platform around for gaming especially with regard to title selection, configuration and options.

Windows is the platform with the largest selection but that doesn't mean that it doesn't suck.

If Windows sucks for gaming then other OSes must suck even more in which case Windows is the lesser of evils.

But Windows doesn't suck because I've gamed heavily on it for years on dozens of hardware configurations running hundreds of games.

If there's a problem (which there usually isn't) it's generally linked to drivers, not Windows.

If I wanted to problem solve, I'd be running Linux. I waited till over 6 months after offical release of Vista and it, so far been crap. For gaming, that is. Just web surfing is nice, but if thats all I wanted to do, a free linux distro with KDE can do that just as pretty as Vista.

...Well, now Tomb Raider Anniversary is crashing too. It is aritfacting and it freezes before I can get to where I control her. Nvidia/Microsoft should have this sh!t resolved by now.
I guess I'm going to have to partition off a drive and re-install XP. I'm so disappointed.

And being the best retard in the retard fair isn't something to be proud of.

Good for you, want a cookie? A few months ago I couldn't even get a small handful of games to run reliably on a system with nothing else on it. I did a fresh install of XP (and Vista at one point) with nothing but Windows, drivers and the games and it was still a huge PITA. Hell just getting XP usable was a huge PITA because it doesn't include drivers for my oh-so exotic NF4 ethernet.

If I wanted to problem solve, I'd be running Linux.

Funny, I find the opposite to be true. Just installing Windows makes me feel like Sisyphus.

No. Do want one for apparently failing to get Windows running properly when thousands of others can?

That isn't typical or normal.

So download the nVidia chipset drivers which include ethernet drivers.

I've gotta side with BFG on this one. Windows has always been super easy for me to install, and almost all devices worked without loading factory drivers. They don't always work optimally, but I generally get basic service. I've also only had 1 game that didn't work right out of the box, but I knew that going in. There was already a patch issued, and I had downloaded that before installing.

So installing XP from a disc, installing drivers (after having to download them from another machine since XP is too retarded to include drivers for my NIC), rebooting a few dozen times while it installs updates and then installing a game isn't the correct procedure? I must say that there's not a lot of room for error in there.

So download the nVidia chipset drivers which include ethernet drivers.

Yes, I can handle that much thanks. The problem is that it's difficult to do when the machine can't connect to the network in the first place. That and finding the right drivers to install is a huge PITA, I much prefer the Linux method of not having to worry about it at all.

If you think your experience with gaming on Windows is typical gaming developers would never touch the platform and no gamer would use it.

Clearly that isn't the case because Windows is the most popular gaming platform; it does not suck for gaming and your experience is neither typical nor the norm.

The problem is that it's difficult to do when the machine can't connect to the network in the first place.
So download them before or use the motherboard driver CD. Failing that you can sometimes force a generic NIC driver to get basic functionality and then download something better later.

I much prefer the Linux method of not having to worry about it at all.
So what do you do with Linux if it doesn't have NIC drivers and you need to download them?

Sounds like hardware problem especially in 3D mode, did you try testing your video card in a different PC?..How's the cooling and temps on the video card and PC?...

Vista is pretty good for gaming in my experience,I have tested over 30 games and they all run solid from Baldur's Gate to Stalker.

Have you tried this?

I thought this was weird in your DXDIAG summary: Driver Date/Size: 12/7/2006 20:25:00, 3055616 bytes

Are you running the latest drivers?

Halo 2 and NFS Carbon wasn't compatible when i checked last time. that was around 3 months back. Vista still needs a lot of time and several updates to become better like windows xp.

Uh, Vista is the only OS Halo 2 is compatible with. :p
NFS: Carbon needs to be run with Administrator rights, IIRC. (Not a Vista user but I remember reading that somewhere. Or something about renaming the MOVIES folder and/or using Win 98 compatibility mode?).

Call of Duty 2 had a problem with enabling AA in the initial NV drivers but I believe even that issue has been resolved since.

Pid:3768 error vista has fits with nvlddmkm, and it looks like nothing is being done about it.

Well, i can tell you that LOTRO definitely works with Vista... so if you're having so much problems, it's probably you.

Even older games such as Beyond Good and Evil works in Vista... you might need to enable XP compatibility, but it'll work.

Also, i'm not having any performance issues.

Is it because Windows Vista is using/running DirectX 10, and the games that you are playing are for directx 9, im not sure if this makes a difference, but I think , THATS why i can not play any.... DANG IT!!!!..... I love dual boot...lol
