for those that have vista, do u see a blank screen that last for few minutes everytime u start up the computer? im abit concern about mine, hope its normal.

Its not normal - in my case its 5-10 seconds.

Post some details (your rig etc.) also check your boot order. Update your drives if possible.

its a new hp pavilion laptop. c2d t7300, 2gig ddr2 ram, nivdia 8400gs, vista home premium. update what drives? everytime right after i log in windows with my user id password, it takes me right to the blank screen for like 2-3mins, then it logs into windows.

OEM rigs usualy come with lots of useless crap(which might be creating this problem) so IF I were you I would format HDD and just do clean install of Vista. As soon as you finnish that install all updates for Vista and latest drivers for your GPU.

yes, thats what i thought too, it does come w/ packloads of software. i dont think it possible to format the hdd since it doesnt come w/ a full version vista disc, all i have is the restore disc, but i can uninstall the programs. thought that could the c2d handle multi programs with ease?

C2D can handle multi apps without problems but my experience is that what OEM load to your system is usualy buggy bloatware.
If you know someone with same version of Vista just use his DVD for clean install and use your product key.

i can use some1 elses vista disc and use my number key? i thought the disc is limited to individuals only.

u r right about buggy software, i scanned the pc w/ virus program and founded 1 virus linked to the HP games.

Your key is able to activate any disc with same version OS on your PC.

is it just as slow without using a login name and password?

havnt tried it without password, i m the only one that uses the laptop, so it's equip w/ a password.

I had same problem I thought it is normal I suppose it is the way Vista runs. I think you might have Vista is on your drive D so you need to make a Vista DVD.

i brought new laptop with Vista Home Premium last week and it doesn't come with Vista CD or DVD but the tech support told me rhw Vista CD is on drive D he said I need to make Vista to DVD or CD.

yes, there is a recovery D partition. if i knew it comes w/ a recovery partition and u can make a dvd out of it, i wouldnt have brought the $20 restore dvd, bastards.

....what does this have anything to do w/ the load up? what laptop do u have?

I had this same problem and it turned out to be a driver issue. The driver worked fine until Vista updated itself and then the next time I rebooted it hung on a blank screen forever. You at least get into Vista after a few minutes. I had to boot into safe mode and rollback my system to before I got the updates and then uninstall the driver.

You might want to try booting your laptop into safe mode and see if it still hangs. If it doesn't then you most likely have a problem driver somewhere on your system...
