Vista, Something is taking up 100% Cpu and I don't know what

In XP I can easily find which process the virus is when I load up taskmanager. But with Vista, they hide some process from view. My question is, is there any Software that is Vista compatible that will show me what file is using up my CPU since a virus scan doesn't come up with anything.

Yes, Process Explorer works just fine in Vista. I have used it on several systems to see what was causing unusual CPU activity and it was very helpful.

I'm having a similar problem .. but different. This is a great program. Often Vista runs off with my hard drive. Grindy, grindy, grindy, blickety blickety blickety...the PC responds fine so whatever in hades is going on is a low priority, but, sitting here typing in Firefox it sure looks far busier. I could boot up a game and play fine, but, the light would never wink out.

I am dying to know what is going on. I have 2GB RAM...this smells suspiciously like an indexing service however the control panel says 'indexing complete'.

It's starting to slow down now...the HD busy light will wink out briefly every 20 seconds....then eventually it will quit after ~20-~30 minutes.

I did try this program "Process Explorer" and while it is quite cool it is not revealing anything...System Idle Process 93% CPU...

The Hard Drive thing is supposed to do that. Vista is endlessly optimizing your hard Drive to ge the most performance.

check for incompatible drivers, I had to disable my add in card drivers and then it went back to normal.
