Vista Sidebar problem

For some reason, I cannot install any gadgets. I am guessing I can manually rename the .gadget extension into .zip and then unzip them into the proper sub-folders, but I really don't need the hassle.

What could it possibly be? When i try to install/open the downloaded .gadget file, it does nothing. TIA.
 
When you double click to install a gadget, by default it goes into the actual sidebar-bar. If you have the sidebar hidden, the gadgets you just installed will be hidden. Either turn the sidebar back on and drag them off, or manually add them from the add gadgets list.
