Vista shortcut to 2nd partition doesn't work

I make shortcuts to my D: drive, in my Quicklaunch, and on the desktop. They only work intermittently, at other times, Vista does nothing (just gives me the busy mouse cursor for a second, and nothing happens.)

I tried redirecting the shortcut, with no help. Why is it doing this? If i redirect to another subfolder, another drive, it works fine..
