Vista shortcut/indexing and windowed 3d problems?

I am still trying to make use of vista's new features such as the start menu index typing thing but it seems i have issues with this.

One Example:
If i type "word" i get two results "MS Word 2007 and wordpad" if i click on MS Word 2007 nothing happens, if i click on wordpad it opens word pad. All my 2007 office product will no load from this menu. My guess it has something to do with how Office 2007 makes it's shortcuts and vista can not do a one to one with it. Anyone know how to fix this?

Also if i goto the system properties dialog (WindowsKey + Break), if i click on Device Manager on the let side it doesn't do anything. This shortcut used to work weeks ago when i last used it. For some reason i want to blame Visual Studio 2005 Pro on this as this is the only software i've installed lately. All the other shortcuts such as remote settings, system protection works. If i go into the control panel i can access the device manager just fine and even type it into the start menu it comes right up. So whats the deal with this?

But overall i like vista and it still has some annoying bugs like this one and if i have a windowed 3d program open and it isn't full screened aero is still enabled not sure how this is possible but all i know is i get a performance decrease because of it but if i click maximize aero is turned off (the start menu is no longer transparent which makes me think aero is off right? So i guess my question is there a way to turn aero 3d abilities when application with 3d acceleration has focus?

Thanks,
Chris
