Vista Shootout: Hotfixes Vs SP1@ExtremeTech

Conclusion: Hotfix or SP1?

With SP1 right around the corner, the Vista community is champing at the bit. Most of our gaming experience, and definitely our other tests, show that it's definitely worth the download and the slow, plodding installation. Gamers will almost certainly benefit from the myriad of fixes in the service pack.

I already have SP1 RTM do I have to install this final release?

Nope,RTM is "release to manufacturing" so its the same version.

When will SP1 for Vista 64bit be available via auto update?

Microsoft have stated around mid March for the general public(I don't know the exact date) so that is only a week or so away.

Um...

Ain't seeing it Mem!

This article is simply stating the obvious...

Are you *suggesting* there are ppl stupid enough NOT to upgrade to SP1? 😀

What part of mem's post are you disagree with? He posted a link and a blurb from the article and then confirmed that the RTM version is indeed SP1. What is it you 'aint seeing' and where did you see Mem suggesting anything about people not upgrading?

Reread the post...

His quote stated "Conclusion: Hotfix or SP1?" 😀

Which way are you going?

That is the name of the article he linked to. Learn to read.

I see!

You're not upgrading to SP1, right? 😉

Typical. Wrong (again) so you change the subject. This box is already on SP1.

As bsobel has already stated the quote is taken from ExtremeTech's website,as to the reason why I posted the link etc..a few people have asked how SP1 effects performance /gaming in general,so the site gives them some general indication.

🙂.

I'm quite happy with SP1, though i was also quite happy with Vista before SP1.

Have it on all three of my desktops, & have the old alpha on my notebook still...been on there since last fall & i haven't bothered to update it.

That basically states my position too!

Actually, I didn't know what I was missing until it was gone...

That is, every time I updated SP1 beta, I had to uninstall the old version... and gak!!!

As fate would have it, I accidentally installed SP1 Final through the beta program, and I've enjoyed having one-up on most ppl for the last few weeks - some think they have SP1, when they don't, yada, yada, yada...

Anyway, there's NO looking back at this point, IMHO!

Hotfixes don't mean jack, in comparison to SP1 Final... and it will only get better... 😀
