Vista running slowly on my beater... what to upgrade?

My beater rig is:

Athlon 64 3800+
Chaintech nForce4 motherboard
1Gb PC3200 Dual Channel
ATI X850 XT
80GB HDD

I have Windows Vista installed, and it is slow. Damn slow. Real slow.

What would y'all upgrade to improve my Vista beta experience 😉

I'd say stop using Vista and thanks for the warning, if that system is "damn slow". That may not be the highest-speed system on the market, but it damn sure ought to be able to run any OS without a hiccup.

Nah... eye candy.

I think it might be the IO that is not liking Vista. THe RAM may be a little weak as well.

They've got a great big piece of crap on their hands if a system like that can't be expected to run smoothly with absolutely everything turned on.

Vista, remember, is still a beta, so MS has a bunch of debugging software running. Also, the 64-bit version basically sucks, according to ExtremeTech. Once Vista is an RC speed issues should not be a problem.
