Vista Removable Storage?

My wife has an HP A6120n OEM with Vista Home Premium 32bit.
A while back when I was helping her I noticed that under Computer the Removable Storage was showing what seems to be all available, and then some, ports. Memory says at least half a dozen. There is nothing in these. When I plug into a USB port it assigns it to one of these, but does a poor job of telling which one.
Is this one of the peculiarities of Vista?
How, if possible, can I show only what is connected under the COMPUTER option?

Does the computer have a multiple function card reader? Many card readers create separate drive letters for each slot in the reader (i.e. one for SD, one for Sony sticks, etc.)

Fardringle is correct. If you have a memory card reader, each slot will show up as a storage device. The main drive may show up as two partitions also, one for data and one for the OS.

When you plug in a flash drive or other storage device, it should show up as a separate letter from any of the previous devices. I dont know any way to stop the computer from assigning letters to the card reader drives. You might be able to disable them in device manager somehow, but I am not really that familiar with how to do that.
