Home premium is good enough, unless you want all the bells and whistles, ultimate is all versions of vista minus enterprise combinded, I have ultimate beta on my laptop and the only downside is that it takes up 8gigs of HDD space, but I love it otherwise. but I would either go with Home Premium or Ultimate, although Ultimate is going to be pricey and you will need at least 2GB of ram

Depends on what you want it for.

Basically, if XP MCE would've done everything you needed, then Home Premium is fine. If XP Pro would've done everything, then Vista Business is fine. And if you really would've wanted them both on the same rig, go for Ultimate.

The version of business that's gone to manufacturing, is that the same as any of the release candidates?

If possible I'd like to get the ultimate edition beta, or RC and check it out.

Anyone know?

Thanks.

RTM is RTM. The only difference between all the SKUs is the features. The only reason why the consumer release is later than the business release is because it takes time to prepare the market.

Biggest thing about Vista Ultimate is the support for multi-core CPUs....

Edit: After posting this I looked at a site..and it says ALL versions support multi-core. I had previously seen that only Ultimate supported multi-core so I don't know which source to believe D:

ultimate is basic, premium, and business, plus it has ultimate extras specific only to ultimate. Ultimate says it needs a minimum of 512, but recommened at a gig, well if you plan on doing any gaming or any heavy duty apps then I recommened a minimum of two

Nope. All vista has support for multi-core/hyper-threaded CPUs.

Home: 1 CPU socket, unlimited cores
Busines/Ultimate: 2 CPU sockets, unlimited cores

And to actually manufacture. A lot of the access that you've seen out there to Vista Business has been downloaded- they need to press the CDs, print the manuals, make the boxes, ship them, etc.

You can authenticate as long as you have valid account, but you can't join the machine to the domain.

Nope. Only Vista Business, Ultimate, and Enterprise Editions will join Domains.

Edit: Whoops. Yeah, Stash is correct. You can AUTHENTICATE, but you can't JOIN.
