Vista refuses to see my old drive.

I installed Vista Home Premium on a brand new hard drive. For the instalation, I disconected my old drive (Win XP) just to be safe.

After the install I set the new drive to master, the old drive with my XP files to slave and rebooted.

In windows vista, my old drive is not displayed in the computer folder.
The drive is displayed in the device manager in disk drives.

How do I access my old drive files with Vista?

This issue has made a relatively easy install into a pain in the but.

Note: If I reboot the system using the old drive, Win XP display both drives as it should.

OK I found computer management and disk management.

Disk 0 is displayed as C

disk 1 has no drive letter and the only option available when right clicking is "Delete Volume"

Deleting the volume is not an option.

You have no "Change drive letters and paths" option? Try the rescan option (Actions on the right side)

Is the disk basic or dynamic? If dynamic we might need an import foreign.

Are disk 0 and 1 on the same controller?

Yes, the only option available is delete. I did try rescan and there was no changes.

The disk layout is SIMPLE, type is BASIC, file system is BLANK and status is healty, active primary partition, capacity is 149.05 GB

If they are on different controllers I would look for a driver update for the failing one.

If they are on the same controller, one disk reads, the other doesn't, but both are good in xp: Call Microsoft. If it turns out to be a bug with Vista your call will be free of charge.
