Bought a new P5N-D setup. It was working fine for a while, but now all of a sudden it started rebooting when I shut down in Vista. It happens every time. Very frusting.

I'm o/c'ing a Q9550 to 3.4GHz which is a very mild overclock. It's running stable except for that particular problem, which didn't occur until a bit later.

Check in your BIOS for an option about what to do on power loss or power restored. It may be set to automatically power on when power is present.

1. Is it rebooting or restarting? -- there is a difference.

2. How exactly are you shutting down? Are you clicking the button with the on/off switch or are you selecting "Shut Down" from the flyout menu? The default behavior for the start menu button is to put the system to sleep and if you've done something to disable sleep mode, it will immediately come back to life.

If you want the start menu button to shut the machine down, you have to change the advanced settings of your power plan. See here for detailed instructions on how to do that.

Nah, that's not it. Regardless of how I shut down, be it from the button, the "Shut Down" menu option or the "shut down" command from the CMD DOS environment, it will reboot every time. It will shut down Vista, then right after instead of turning off it will go right to my PC's BIOS screen and restart just like I'm turning it on.
