Vista reactivation concern

I bought a new prebuilt system several months ago and activated it as usual with the correct product key. About two months later the computer booted up with a black desktop background and said I had to activate it to continue. I activated it again and everything worked fine, but it has me worried.

Why would this happen? I have some other concerns with this system and if this could be a hardware issue I need to know if possible. Any help you can provide is welcome.

Thanks!

If the activation went without a hitch then you should be fine. What probably happened is something with the hardware or Windows key triggered the Windows Genuine Advantage program to detect your system is pirated or changed has changed significantly. This does happen on a small number of systems.

When they were first implementing this on XP, it caused these kinds of problems all the time. Now they are rare for non-pirated versions of Windows.

Unless it happens again in the next few months then I wouldn't worry about it.
