Excellent. Now, does anyone know if 64 bit still runs like a dog? I was very dissapointed with Beta 2.

For me anyway it runs a lot faster. I removed Beta2 from my computer after a few days without really having used it much since I felt the performance was just too slow for the OS to be of much use at that point. I've mostly been using RC1 x64 as my "main" OS for a few days now and it's much more usable...I'd definitely recommend giving it a shot if you're interested in trying it.

Found this same internet connection problem in the MS Vista installation newsgroup with the following resolution:

Later post offered a resolution for the issue:

>I was able to resolve this same issue by disabling TCP Checksum Offload for ip4 and ip6 >as well as disabling UDP Checksum Offload in ip4 and ip 6.

In device manager, expand network adapters and right click on your card.
Select properties.
Select the Advanced Tab.
You should then see the options.

I'll try this tonight and see what I get. I'd like to retire my USB wireless adapter again, so maybe this is the 'magic bullet' needed for my situation.

A couple of tips I'll share to speed up this bad boy.

1. Set pagefile too -

If you have 1GB ram set Min and Max to 1024, Then hit SET !

If you have 2GB ram set Min and Max to 512, Then hit SET !

2. Go into Services and disable -

Security Center

Windows Firewall

Internet Connection Sharing

3. Go into CP and tell "Windows Defender" To not be scanning in the background etc.

4. Disable or Do not allow Indexing.

After doing these simple steps, I notice a 1/3rd. Improvement in the system.

In any case, since I made that post last night, I tried setting my connection settings to "auto" again (get an IP address automatically via DHCP, etc.) and now it works fine.

Can you explain exactly how you did this?
I cannot connect to the internet with the ASROCK 939 Dual SATA motherboard and the 32-bit version of Vista RC1.

Have you ever been able to connect within Vista?

If not, try booting back into XP and writing down all your settings (IP address, default gateway, subnet mask, DNS servers...) and enter all those manually in the TCP/IPv4 properties for the connection.

They changed the interface and how to get to it a bit from how it was in XP, I can be more detailed if you'd like...

When I installed Beta 2, I had no trouble. But, I think I had to install the Vista driver for LAN from the ASROCK web site.

When I installed RC1, I installed the same LAN driver. May be that was my mistake. I think the network card was showing as an unidentified device in the device manager.

Please tell me if you installed any drivers for LAN or not.

Please tell me how you get to the TCP/IP settings. I could not find it in Vista.

I did not have to install LAN/ethernet drivers manually, the device was already working and had a driver upon completing the installation of the OS. I think that if you're trying to install the driver from ASRock's website, it may be older than the one included in Vista RC1...but then again, it is strange that it wasn't automatically installed for you.

Anyways, to get to the network settings, Start>Network>Network and Sharing Center>Manage Network Connections, and your device/connection should be listed there. You can right-click and go to Properties, which will bring up a page similar to XP's where you can change settings for all the protocols, etc. TCP/IPv4 is the main one you want to look at, and manually enter all your connection information there if you need to.

I like the new install routine.. :)
clean install took 24min to windows.. All drivers were found except HDA Auzentech Xplosion soundcard.. But the latest drivers installed fine..

I also have this sound card, however, I have, as of yet, not been able to get the proper drivers installed. If there is anyone who could help, I would be very grateful.
