Vista RC1 not writing to MBR?

Installed Vista RC1 last night and was surprised to find that Vista doesn't seem to have touched the original mbr installed by XP. XP is still installed and boots as if Vista was never installed. However, when the DVD I used to install Vista is in the drive, Vista is loaded automatically without any hint it coexists with XP. The only explanation I can come up with is that Vista failed to write to the MBR for whatever reason and uses the DVD as a boot disk, much like the floppies of old. Given the appalling lack of options when installing Vista it's hard to imagine I did or didn't do something when installing it. My only conclusion is that this is done intentionally with RC1, but yet this doesn't seem like appropriate 'release client' behavior.

So my question is this... is this normal for RC1, Or have I stumbled accross a bug?
