Vista Randomly accessing my External drive?

Jules

Lifer
Im running Vista Ultimate 64bit and i notice that vista will randomly access my external drive. Anyone else have this issue? BTW its a Mybook Essential 2.0

You can check file activity in:

Task Manager > Performance Tab > Resource Monitor button

From Resource Monitor > Disk > Sort by file and look for the drive letter of your external drive. It should tell you which process and which file is being accessed.

Great thanks alot. I will check it out when my drive boots up

Checked out the resource monitor when my drive booted up by it self and it told me Svhost.exe F: "NTFS Master File Table"

You need to find out which service it is, if possible. All that tells us is that some service is touching the master file table, but it doesn't say which service that is.

How would i go about finding that out?

There may be an easier way, but one possible way would be to find the PID for that process in the task manager, and then right-click on it to show services, that'll show you everything that service process is running.
