A few days ago I got a message, "Indexer stopped working". Now the computer runs slow and super slow when I do anything to the hard drive (I deleted an empty folder and it took like 2mins).

Any ideas? I tried turning indexer off but it didnt seem to work.

Brother Ali, do you listen to Brother Ali?

And here's what I found on Google.

... delete all files related to search indexing, located by default at:

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Search\Data\Applications\Windows

and:

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Search\Data\Temp

Delete all files and folders in these directories (you might want to make a backup, I did, but it proved unnecessary).

Then, change the service back to starting automatically. You still can't start the service until you reboot, at which time Windows will rebuild the index.

Griffinhart: I dont think so. It was fine a few hours ago that day then I start up the computer and it runs slow and says idexer stopped working. I will double check (I have Windows 2000 installed also) so I can see if its the hard drive

Reverend boltron: Yeah I listen to Brother Ali (saw him live also); my real name is Ali though. Funny story when I got my cd signed by Ali; I said to make it out to Ali. He was like who is that? lol

I will try that out. I cant right now because im just about to leave my house.

I did what you posted, it worked! It wouldnt let me delete all the files ("is being used by another program"). I never saw it saying that it rebuilded the index so I guess it did that in the background.

It is like a light switch. Before my computer-dead; now ALIVE!
