Vista Problem with Network Connection!

So I have been running Vista fine on my machine for months now. For some stupid reason I decided to reboot the machine. Ever since the reboot I cannot get any Network related functions to work.

The Network Icon shows I have a working connection with the internet and my local network. However, I cannot access anything on the internet or the network (including the router) on this machine. I tried my laptop that is using XP and it works fine. I've tried rebooting everything multiple times, and even my other Network port and the problem is still there.

I am running on an nForce a8n-SLI motherboard.

Has anyone experienced anything like this before? I am really banging my head on a wall here.

Have you tried going straight to the modem to see if you can get an internet connection on the vista pc? This same thing happened to me and I spent hours trying to figure it out.

I ended having to hard reset my router, thus loosing all the settings and setting it back up again and it worked. Im still not sure what caused it.

Yeah, I just tried plugging the modem in directly, same problem. I just don't get it!

Some more info:
Things get even stranger. I am able to ping my router and internet addresses fine. Anything else I try to use cannot connect and if it was something internet related (Firefox, Outlook, etc) it will crash when I exit the application. WTF! I haven't installed any new software or drivers recently. I also tried doing the "Last Known Good" option on bootup.

I have an Asus P5N32-E SLI mobo that uses the Nvidia NIC. When I use the newest Nvidia drivers, I have nothing but issues with my network connection. But, when I uninstall the NIC drivers and use the Microsoft drivers in Vista, it works perfectly. Try that. You may be having the same problem I am having.

When I run into this I usually find that the Winsock is corrupted. Try this...I believe these commands work in Vista as well:

Reset Winsock:
netsh winsock reset

Reset TCP/IP Protocol:
netsh int ip reset

Let me know if that helps.
