Vista Partition size

How large of a partition is needed for Vista? Is it a much bigger pig than XP?
I want the partion to be comfortably sized with room to install apps and games.

Currently I have my XP partition, which includes all installed software and games at 60GB. Its a little tight, but it usually means I'm playing too many games at once, instead of finishing one and removing it.

I am thinking a 100GB C: drive should be good. any comments?

Why waste your time partitioning at all? Just put one big partition on each drive and be done with it, you'll save yourself some headaches that way.

And to answer your question, Vista is quite a bit bigger than XP. Actually I don't remember how much space XP takes up on it's own, but I have 32-bit Vista RC2 in a VM and it's ~9G and I believe the 64-bit version is ~10G.

The count for 32-bit Vista wasn't a recollection, I booted the VM and looked at how much space was used on the volume. The count for 64-bit Vista was just the previous count with a gig added because 64-bit binaries are larger.

I made a 50 gig partition on my backup drive for Vista, and I am not anywhere near using it all. With a bunch of MS development tools installed (basically the whole suite), Office, and a few other apps I have 34.x gigs left.

I like a seperate partition for my OS and Apps/Games, so that if I ever need a complete reinstall for some reason, my data is on another partition.

It makes more sense to have a seperate physical drive if you want to do that.

The installation requirements of Vista is 15 GB, but the actual footprint of the 32 bit version is about 8 - 9 GB and 11 or so for the 64 bit version. The set-up routine checks for 15 GB free before installation, and will crap out if the space is not available.

The correct answer is 15 GB to install and an after installation footprint of about 8 - 9 GB.
