Yeah I've never used system restore nor have I wanted to. I prefer to save the resources/space for other things. I have complete and regular backups. Rebuilding my OS from scratch would only take a couple hours. No biggie.

Why is the game almost useless because it is accessing the hard drive? That is what I would be worried about.

because it makes the game choppy/unplayable

System restore isn't for backups, it's for fixing screwed up driver installations and things like that. I've fixed bad drivers in under a minute using system restore. It's worth a couple gb of drive space to me for the convenience.

I used XP for nearly 6 years with System Restore on,never had to use it once, btw there is recovery option on bootup of Vista, very rare drivers would cause a major problem.

One more thing the drivers in Vista are more robust then XP ones due to the kernel changes they made to the OS.

I'll assume you're in Vista. This will apply to XP also, but I'm not in front of my XP desktop to give exact button pushes.

Open Control Panel
Click System
Click Advanced System Settings
Click Advanced tab
Click Settings button under performance
Click Advanced tab
Click Change under Virtual Memory

I keep a small page file on my Windows partition to aid in debugging in case of crash. I have a minimum of 256mb and maximum of 512mb. My main page file is on my backup drive and it has a custom size of 3069min 3069max.

Resize the page file on your system disk to a small amount for error logs, you need 256mb min. Then put your main page file(of whatever size you like) on your second drive, then reboot to set. If you move your page file make sure it's on a separate physical disk. Moving it to a different partition on the same disk will hurt performance.

I know it's not for backups. Considering I've never had a situation where I needed to roll back my system, I've never felt it necessary to have System Restore operational. My point was that if there ever was a situation in which I couldn't fix a problem, I'd have no problem reinstalling the OS and my applications. It's a tradeoff I'm willing to make. If the thought of reinstalling my OS and apps was horrible to me, you bet your behind I'd have system restore on.
