Vista on an E6300?

well my family uses it for surfing the web, etc, email, and stuff, nothing too tough on the system. i play cs 1.6 (a game with relatively low required system specs), cs:source, and warcraft 3. i have heard to games not running too well, but it seems that those are generally games like BF2 that are taxing. would this system be able to get 100 fps in 1.6, at least 60 in source, and a playable frame rate in wc3, on vista??

E6300
1gb G. Skill DDR2 667 RAM
ASRock 4Core board
7600gt agp version
80gb hdd ide

Very well. Vista runs perfectly on my A64 3000+ and Core Solo T1350 so you certaintly won't have any performance problems.

Oops, forgot to add that nVidia's OpenGL drivers are teh suck right now so if any of your games uses OpenGL instead of DirectX performance will suffer, unfortunately. Hopefully newer driver releases will resolve this issues soon.

It's not only the OpenGL.

Using a brand-new Nvidia 6200 card in Vista Ultimate, the latest-and-greatest WHQL driver stops responding and reloads EVERY time I do an "Undo" of a chess move in the built-in Chess Titans game. I didn't have that problem with the sucky and very old ATI Rage XL card that I was using for my earlier chess lessons. 😉

Considering Vista runs faster on my AMD A64 3200+ than XP, I'd say it will run very, very well on a E6300 🙂

Games run okay, though a bit choppy at times due to my having only a gig of RAM, but that's not really CPU related.

I have Vista Ultimate running on a E4300 with 1gb DDR400, it runs like a champ...although my E4300 is running at 3ghz (333x9)

The OS should run fine. Your going to want to add at least another GB of memory though for the host OS to run snappy and run games at an acceptable frame rate though. Mileage varies but 2GB is the minimum now for power users on Vista. 1GB will run and for most things be plenty but the OS will grab more memory out of the box than XP. The GUI, assuming your running with candy on, is more needy in Vista.

We have an E6300 test machine here with the following spec:

E6300 (obviously) not OC'd
2GB DDR2-667
80GB 7200 RPM SATA
GeForce 6200

Seems to run fairly well. Aero looks great. We've only tested business apps on it though, my company doesn't have a big need to test gaming.
