I know I haven't posted before but ...

I would wait a while. I've been running Vista Ultimate 32bit since February. Compatibility issues galore.

EX.

Nero 7, Nerovision

WMP has locked often

Vista claims Realtek Vista driver is not compatible

Dreamscene blows

AeroGlass is touchy

I have an extra Vista Ultimate OEM if anyone is interested haha

Wierd. I use Nero7 all the time with no issues. Dont like Dreamscene? Turn it off 😛 I also use Realtek and have found Vista's drivers actually work better than Realteks.

Just my experience

I like Dreamscene, apparently it doesn't like me. So, it is off.

NeroVision (latest version) is where the issues present themselves. Usually get a "not responding" message and have to close.

Went back to the Vista driver for realtek device, thanks for the advice 🙂

I would say wait, but not because of MS, but because video card drivers and sound card drivers are sucky at best right now, creative just plain sucks and nvidia and ati are just catching up...

Actually drivers seem to be very good, both ATI/AMD and Nvidia have released quite a lot of video drivers now ,remember both are now on monthly updates, you can argue some features are missing in the Nvidia control panel and performance is getting better slowly especially with 8800 cards.

As to Creative Labs ,I have had no problems with their Audigy 4 drivers or even Nvidia drivers in any of my 23 games installed with Vista x64.

I was thinking of going out to buy vista. I game and do excel stuff (also going out to buy excel 2007). Would it be worth it for vista now? Or should I wait until things are more mature?

I have Vista but i was building a new rig so I figured I?d go for it. here are some of my issues:

ide driver-used the default but did not work correctly, went to another driver and now its ok
audigy 2- any game with direct sound won't have advanced sound options, also the driver for audigy is way scaled down from xp version. it works but not with bells and whistles.

video- drivers have improved a lot and performance for me is right near xp, however some options do not work like digital vibrance and such

Installed Vista on a friend's dual core HP AMD laptop (1.6 or 1.8ghz I think), and was astounded at how well the process was and how well Vista ran. No driver glitches - no headaches.

Vista is awesome. It runs so much faster than XP on my E6300 @ 3.2 and I've experienced no crashes or glitches so far. All of my drivers work except for some obscure hardware I have like a no-name webcam from China and a no-name scanner from 5 years ago.

One of the few negatives is that there's no option to turn off ClearType (Segoe UI font) for the entire GUI. I had to manually change the font for each part of the GUI. Why? Because Segoe UI looks like ass on my monitor. It looks fine on some monitors (e.g. my laptop screen) but on my Viewsonic VA902b it looks absolutely brutal.
