Vista noob here -- need help right away please

Trying to help a friend with new computers. All computers are Vista Home and we just want a simple network.

1 Server holds the data on 1 drive. We need that entire drive to be shared.

In XP this was a breeze but no matter what I try I cannot get access to the drive across the network.

Can anyone give me the cliffs version of what to do??

I have been searching for the last hour and everything I have read/tried has not fixed the issue.
