I've done a bit of googling and have found out that a few other people have the same problem I have...that is, Vista won't display any video upon returning from hibernate. The only way to resolve it is to manually power off the pc then turn it back on.

Seems like ppl with Nvidia cards are getting this. Anyone know of a fix?!

Read the release notes for the NVidia Vista drivers. It's a known problem, and has been since day 1. Apparently it isn't a priority for them to fix it, or it is very hard. Also, I think that I saw something about a Vista update that might have an impact. I can't recall if it has been released, or if it is still to come.

I figured as much...just wanted to confirm. It will be annoying to check every single release note to find out when it does get fixed...

It's NVIDIA. I had weird garbage/speckling/artifacts after resuming from hibernate with my 6800GS. Ditched it for an x1950Pro and now my machine behaves properly.
