Vista networking issue... and a slight rant

My experience with Windows Vista has changed. I used to recommend Vista because of it almost never crashes and other positives. That was before I got a laptop. Vista on my laptop sucks because I have such a difficult time getting on the internet. It has constant difficulty connecting wirelessly to my router. Even worse, sometimes it has difficulty connecting with a wired connection. I just have to keep trying until it finally works, or reset my router and it may work half the time, or use a wired connection which works most of the time.

I feel cheated by Microsoft. This isn't the first time I've had issues, but the other issues weren't big and were solved easily. It makes me feel like Vista is the successor to "Me". That came with my first computer. In order to shut down Me, I would have to restart the computer first or else it would crash. But Vista is worse. It seems to fail at doing simple things - it can't even remember my folders view settings out of the box. I have to employ a fix to the registry.

I'm so angry. I would go back to Windows XP, but Windows 7 seems to be right around the corner, which seems to be a fixed Windows Vista. It feels like a waste of money to have bought Vista, then buy XP, to then buy Windows 7. Right now I'm eagerly awaiting Windows 7 beta because a beta version of a hopefully good OS can't be worse than Vista.

Here we go again,User A has a problem and blames Win5,User B has a problem blames Win6,User C has a problem and blames Win7,bottomline users will always have a problem or two and blame the OS as usual.

FYI I'm typing this on my Vista laptop in wireless mode via my Belkin router(works fine in wired mode as well),wait a sec my brother is chatting to his friend on his Vista laptop in wireless mode too,hmm now what do I blame Vista for now.

Btw are you sure you don't have any faulty hardware or problem elsewhere, good old calm troubleshooting goes a long way, you'll be surprised how OS is always blamed for everything even faulty hardware, end of the day no OS or user is perfect its the world we live in.

Sorry VIAN its nothing personally but I have seen rant posts like this way before Vista even before XP days ,you can bet it'll continue with Win7 ,Win8 ,sad really.
OS is just an OS,if you think Win7 will magically stop posts like yours then you are in for a shock.

For the record I'll be first to say Vista or ANY OS is not perfect buts its not as bad as what you have said,so you have a problem thats nothing new and you are certainly not the first person to have a problem, infact problems with PCs have been around way before Vista and even XP.

Folder view was a known issue but plenty of fixes on the net.

As I have stated think you going have to do some troubleshooting and remain objective and calm.

Btw I had a serious issue with XP and wireless connection on parents PC,I tried everything I could think of and it still kept disconnecting every few minutes or so,my Vista laptop I used to test their router with was fine,in the end I replaced their XP PC with a different XP PC but kept the same wireless network card and it worked fine, point is I could of blamed XP but did not because I know better, I have been around long enough to know things are not always as they seem.

Sounds to me like faulty hardware. If wired and wireless are having issues it could be cabling or your router is taking a dump or your network card is bad.

Have you determined that your laptop is being assigned an IP address? If not, have you tried a static IP to see if at least you can establish a network connection?

Out of the three OSs I've used, XP is the only OS that worked great 95% of the time. I'm at a point in my life where I don't feel like I should have to tolerate these issues. I want things to work out of the box - just like they promise. I know everything can't work, but how many POS things do I have to be surrounded by. And when one or more requires fix after fix after fix - this obviously gets annoying.

The Laptop connects to the router wirelessly most of the time. The big issues is at the Gateway, according to Vista's network map. I don't think it's hardware because everything my sister's XP laptop connects, so do a few ipod touchs, and my PS3. Lenovo says that if it connects to the router, then it isn't their fault. It seems like a setting issue. I've tried a few fixes with no result. At the moment I've disabled TCP/IPv6 and I'm trying it out to see if that was the culprit.

Look at this. It's very difficult not to blame Vista when, at the moment, I'm connected to the internet and can surf the web, but Vista says I'm not connected. I find plenty of these inconsistencies and it ruins the credibility of the OS. I'm sure there are a lot of stupid people out there who cry at the first sign of trouble, but at what point do you say - "maybe its the OS".

My brothers Laptop is a Lenovo too,he said he has had no issues with wireless or wired usage with Vista,I do know he did have trouble with the Lenovo Password Manager software,it was causing problems with Firefox anyway he uninstalled that and solved his Firefox issue,my Dell Laptop always connects first time(used everyday),what I'm saying if your problem was a Vista OS issue then a lot of users that use Vista like myself etc would be having the same problem, again we don't so its probably something else, faulty nic in laptop, network driver, something corrupted etc..

A lenovo? Isnt IBM notorious for installing all sorts of bloatware? Like wireless and wired network managers, password managers, password password managers?

I find once you start eliminating the crap the OEM installs the issues start to disappear.

It's not IBM Thinkpad anymore, it's Lenovo Thinkpad.

However, bloatware still exists, which is the reason I reinstalled Vista as soon as I got the laptop. Surprisingly, Vista didn't automatically install the drivers, so I had to use their System Update software and it wants you to install so much junk. I tried to install as little as possible, but there some programs listed in the Uninstall menu such as Lenovo_ATK_Package. It's cryptic and I wasn't able to find any information online about it.
