Vista Network issue

I am trying to turn on network discovery but when I click to turn on and then click on private network not public it just goes right back to the screen and doesnt change. I changed the computers to the same workgroup but I didnt think that should matter for that option in vista.

If the other computer are Not compatible with Vista Discovry thye would appear in the Little MAP, but they still connect and can be shared.

Best is to work through Drive Mapping.

Successful Sharing involves some general consideration in Network settings, http://www.ezlan.net/sharing.html

As well as specific adjustment of each computer according to what it is allowed to be shared.

I have all the xp updates for vista. But see the thing is I cant change the network to private only public so how can I do that.

Anyone? I will clerify the problem when I click on networking from the desktop and then the window open the little yellow bar comes down and says that network discovery is not enabled. When I click to turn it on it asks for private or public network I click on private. Then that dialog box dissapears and then the yellow bar comes down again it wont let me select anything but public.

I am also wondering does it matter if I select public will I still be able to have other xp computers print through and share public files through. I have the xp computer all set up to connect to vista and the update required to be seen in vista. I would appreciate any replies but JackMDS if you get a chance you have helped me out before could you try again thx.
