Vista memory dump error

So I have been having this issue for months now thinking it was an Nvidia issue. So yesterday I set all my settings to stock and am no longer overclocking. I then did a fresh install of Vista on a secondary drive, so I am still dual booting with XP. The only change I made to Vista was that I installed the latest 158.43 beta Nvidia drivers. The system restarted and I went straight to the control panel, add remove programs and blam I get a physical memory dump error.

Any suggestions? Personally I like Vista and was getting used to it.

Blind answer:

chkdsk your drive first.
Then go to hklm\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\uninstall. Look for anything that looks obviously corrupted.
You can also jump back a restore point.
If problem persists try some memory diagnostics.

If you could post the stop code and parameters it may give a clue.

I'm hoping it isn't corrupted data because it is a fresh install, but could be the case. This has happened with the fresh install and the old install I had been running for a couple months.

one install working would have nothing to do with the other. If you have a bad spot it would be highly unlikely it would sit under the same spot in both installs.

You might also want to investigate the last thing you did. I know folks have had some nVidia driver install issues but these have typically been with a bad nVidia control panel applet.

What was the bugcheck and parameters?

Did some more poking around with it last night, I installed a fresh copy on a completely different drive. When the install is complete I can access the control panel and the install/uninstall programs. I then installed all of the requested updates and restarted. Checked and could still get to the control panel and install/uninstall just fine. I then went and downloaded the latest certified Nvidia drivers and restarted. I then attempted to get to the control panel and almost instantly I get the memory dump error. So it has to be the Nvidia drivers. Is anyone else having this issue? I still haven't had a chance to write down the error I'm getting but should be able to tonight.

Unless the BSOD is mass storage related it will be logged in your system event log with all the parameters.

From what you're saying you might want to check on the nVidia forums. Also if it's reproducible like that nVidia support would probably be VERY interested. Arm yourself with the memory.dmp, msinfo32 output and then open a web/email support ticket with them.
