First off, to the 'wrong forum' nazi's - this post is as about as general as it gets.. it has to do with windows, a/v, console gaming, and off-topic. Gen Hardware is about the only place for it to go.

I'm trying to figure out the best way to watch blu-ray.. My current setup is:

PC in computer room that has tuners 'n' such which streams to my 360 (connected via wired ethernet to living room). However, this lacks blu-ray support. So, I bought an internal blu-ray drive for the pc with hopes of being able to rip blu-ray dvd's and then stream to the 360. After discovering how difficult this would be I decided to get a set top blu ray player. Also, my lcd is not HDCP compliant to I'd need to spend $400 anyway on a decent ips hdcp compatible lcd.

However, a PS3 is about the same price as either buying a set-top box or a new lcd.

Opinions? I rarely play games on the 360, but rely on it as an vista media center extender. Even though the PS3 will play the recorded tv files, it won't let me connect to the guide or watch live tv like the 360 will. Therefore, the only reason I'd be buying a PS is for blu-ray.

Alternatively, I could wait until the PS3 drops in price or the 360 (possibly) gets BD support...

PS3 is supposed to be the best Blu-ray player, and the most future proof with wide software upgrade flexibility, not a bad choice at all.
