Dell E521 PC, X2 3800+, 1GB RAM, 8m broadband connection, yet this is a slug on the internet.

I suspect the culprit is McAfee, anyone else experienced this?

Could be several things. A little bit more information helps as well. Operating System, browser(IE/IE7/Firefox/something weird)...etc.

Has McSuckfee always been installed or did this problem just occur after installing it? Clearing your browser cache, cookies, might help too. Another step to take is spyware/malware removal. Spybot S&D and AdAware tend to be some of the better, and easiest to use, tools.

Also to note: I've used Symantec, GriSoft, Sophos, McAfee, and a great deal other anti-virus, firewall protection software and performance generally and most of them drops at some level. Symantec's latest(360) will be 'awesome' when it comes out. Can't wait.

If pressed, I use Symantec. I'm not happy about it. But at least I can blame Symantec when something happens to squeeze into my computer and crash it. It's a scape goat(1 word or 2?).

Hi Tarrant - the o/s is Vista as stated in thread title, the PC is brand new as in new model E521, never been on the internet before and behind firewalled router so doubt it has malware already. McSuckfee came preloaded, tried surfing with Firefox and IE7, no diff. just rrreeeeeaaaaallll ssssllllloooowwww ssssuuuuurrrrfffffffiiiinnnngggg!.

Im running McAfee and Vista without any abnormal speed problems.

that uninstall tool (the link that schadenfroh posted) did work for me when I was running XP, so its worth a shot.

Have you tested the connection on another machine?

Note: You'd be surprised what a computer can get infected with being connected to the internet for a short amount of time.

Okay guys, uninstalled the Mcsuckfee suite and we are rocking......

So either there was a config problem, or Vista doesnt like the suite, sorry I should have taken note of the version etc....

Now using the Windows 2 way firewall with defender and AVG 7.5.....All good
