No I meant on OEMs. Why wouldn't it be? I figure the OEMs would be pushing hard for it.

Ah, ok. Just glanced over an article that said it won't be on consumer PCs until the Jan launch. I, apparently mistakenly, thought OEMs could put it on PCs after the RTM, and the Vista boxed CDs just wouldn't hit store shelves until January.

It takes a little longer for the OEM channels to turn everything around after RTM. More along the lines of 2-3 months.

I ordered a new PC from Dell this morning. They are offering "free" upgrades to Vista (from XP Professional to Vista Business) WHEN it's available.

I'm not sure that it's Kosher, but there's nothing that can be done about it, and it isn't a violation of the EULA. I do this for virtual machines that I am frequently building and tearing down, and I'm not the only one.

Full functionality until the grace period runs out...I believe this is 14 days if you don't enter a key. This is lower than the grace period you get if you enter a key (30 days).

Ok. Tell Balmer to give all the developers raises. Seriously though, I give Microsoft credit when credit is due (which I do for various things), but so far I have not used Vista and have not been impressed with what I've read about it, and the thought of the licensing hoops I may some day have to jump through to do installs on our business computers leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

And with the price increases, I'm sure Microsoft will be getting enough compensation to dry their tears from the lack of credit and respect the company gets. How about a little credit and respect for all the hard work that goes into open source software?

So in other words, you aren't really qualified to making comments one way or the other. You aren't impressed with what you hear about Vista, you are hesitant to use it at work...so why are you complaining about the time it took to develop??

You would be hard pressed to find a Linux thread around here where I made any comments similar to your numerous comments on Vista or Microsoft in general. I haven't used Linux on a regular basis in about 5 years, so my credit and respect toward open source comes in the form of me keeping my mouth shut about things I don't know much about.

There is a huge double standard for Linux, and it is the giant elephant in the room. The slightest criticism is flamed away, but the constant FUD wrt Microsoft is accepted as fact and encouraged.

Yeah me too. All I know is it took a long time to finish (not that that bothers me), and I haven't heard anything to make me anxious to implement it at work (therefore I have not spent time trying it for myself).

Well, I guess "long time" would be relative, and not be a fact, but I wouldn't consider it FUD, and don't see it as something to get bent out of shape over, but to each his own. And that I am not anxious to implement it here, well that is a fact. I can prove it, just ask me 🙂 That's not to say that other people aren't anxious for it, or that is will or will not be worth their time.

Sorry if it bothers you that people have opinions that differ from yours. Maybe Microsoft will fork over some of that money to ease your pain and suffering.
