I was never a fan of Vista Windows Mail,

but i have to admit that there are several things about Live Mail and also Thunderbird i do not like.

( This might be different for people who only have one or two email accounts. But i have many accounts which go with my websites/marketing.....and i just like the old "Vista Mail" better overall )

You can easily use Windows Mail on W7 if you copy the two folders:

C(Vista):\program files\windows mail
C(Vista):\users\(yourname)\appdata\local\microsoft\windows mail

to the same folders on your W7 install.

( Alternatively, if you have a dual boot: Say, you boot into your W7 and your W7 partition becomes C: and your Vista partition would become G:

You could just go into CMD, into the appropriate folder on your W7 make some symbolic links to the folders on the Vista partition,
like
CD program files
MKLINK /D "Windows Mail" "G:\program files\windows mail"

and same with the appdata folder.

For me this worked right away with all my data and emails intact.

Why i dont like Windows Live Mail:

With Windows Live Mail the account handling of a bunch of accounts is not that great either, but what really irked me is the "visual" appearance of the unread mails and the "minor" fact that unread mails are NOT displayed in bold. Also, i dont like the default font.

Thunderbird first was a bitch to even bring that far to start-out with my INBOX displayed, it needed an ADDON so it goes into your INBOX at startup. Then...with 10+ acounts it gets VERY ugly, but what bugged me most is the fact that it does not display WHAT email account it is fetching right now when it goes through my list checking my emails.

Also...for some odd reason i get WAY more spam mails into Thunderbird than i ever got with Windows Mail.

Thunderbird works much much faster with gmail imap for me than Windows Live Mail, and I couldn't properly sync my google calendar and contacts . Other than that, I actually liked Windows Live Mail. I though the interface was pretty nice and the syncing with the live services is nice. However, I use gmail/calendar (actually google apps), blogger, picasa web albums, etc...

...Thankfully windows live writer and photo gallery both work flawlessly with blogger and picasa web albums.
