Vista limited connectivity (cannot access the internet)

I have XP pro SP2 on my Asrock 939 Dual-SATA2 and have no problem accessing the internet. The PC is connected to a router. The router is connected to a cable modem.

I have Vista 5744 32-bit installed on another partition. When I log into Vista, I cannot connect to the internet.
When I check "Network and Sharing Center", it says I have limited connectivity!

How can I fix this?

Thanks!

I see that you are concluding that something is wrong with the network card.
I have to add another piece of the puzzle then!

I have installed this version of Vista several times.
Every time, I can connect to the internet by initiating a diagnose and repair of the connectivity. It eventually connects every time. However, after a few reboots, it stops working even after repair attempts.

No, I'm not sure what the problem is -- just considering the obsolescence of 10/100 PCI NICs and their availability in curb-side computers, etc., I'd suggest trying to eliminate that.

I see 3 Intel Pro/100 for $5 (+$4 shipping) on eBay for example. Assuming that this is a legit deal and the NICs work, etc., I think it'd make some sense to get some common PCI NIC instead of continuing to struggle with the problem, looking for drivers that don't exist, etc.

I already have an old PCI ethernet card.
I installed it and Vista did not recognize it. Installed its drivers and it seems to be working without the need to repair anything.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I have the same mobo and same problems. The onboard NIC worked great for Beta2 but hasn't worked for any subsequent release. I finally did what the others have suggested and just grabbed a PCI card and have been using that ever since.

The card you tried, could it have been from a Dell or Compaq? They love to slightly alter their hardware and windows won't recognize it. Mine was from an old Compaq with an Intel chipset, Vista didn't recognize it so I just manually picked the closest model # in Vista and it works great.

No, it is not from Dell or Compaq.
It is a SOHOware 10/100 PCI network card.

Same thing here as uallas5, the NIC worked under both beta2 and 5536 releses, but RC1 killed it. I had been using a Netgear USB adapter for a month, then dropped my overclock on the rig due to a PSU not keeping things stable. After dropping the Opteron 144 overclock from 2.7 to 2.4, the onboard NIC is now working again.
