Vista LAN problem

XP is set up properly, can connect with the laptop no problems, my box connects to if I'm in XP. Installed Vista 64 today, setup the networking. I'm able to connect to the internet, but if I go to network places I don't see the computer on the shared list, just mine. if I open a run box and type the computers name I see it fine. I'm a bit confused why I can't see it directly in my network places. Once I type it in pops up in the left panel in the network screen. and I can access all my shared stuff on it. if I close the network screen and re-open it again, I have to re type \\upstairs in the command line at the top (or run) to get it to pop up again.

I feel stupid, but this has to be something easy I'm overlooking/not doing.

help? confused here

thanks 🙂

Go into the network and sharing center and make sure your network isnt set to public, set it to 'Home'.

Successful Sharing involves some general consideration in Network settings, http://www.ezlan.net/sharing.html

As well as specific adjustment of each computer according to what it is allowed to be shared.
