Vista Issues

I still don't know why MS had to redesign Vista when XP was perfectly fine. Anyway, has anyone come across the following two issues with Vista:

1) The event viewer service can not start. I receive an error 4201: The instance name passed was not recognized as valid by a WMI data provider

2) Diskeeper 2007 service will not start. The install went very smooth yet the service will not start. The error message is: Error 1062: The service has not been started.

If i could get into the event viewer, maybe i could see what is going on...

Have you tried booting off the dvd and then using the system repair utility?

No, I haven't tried that. No one had mentioned that in any postings about my issues.
