Vista Installer

I'm wondering if the Vista installer will automatically install a 32 or 64 bit OS depending on the hardware that the installer detects.

I work for a software company and currently our software will not run in a 64-bit OS, so we're trying to determine if users that have 64-bit hardware would have the option to install a 32-bit OS in Vista.

Thanks for any help on this one, all I got from MS was a canned response.

No, it won't. The x86 and x64 versions are completely separate.

I read here that all Vista versions are available on one DVD or is this just the product flavors?

Just the SKUs like Home Basic, Home Premium, Ultimate, etc. The architectures (x86, x64) are separate.

Yes you can install a 32bit OS on 64bit hardware.

(of course you need a 32 bit installer, RC1 is the free version available for download until next year. Check the hive for details.)

I was able to download both the 32 and 64 bit versions durring the registration process.

--That may (or may not) be true of the DVD, I didnt buy it. I DL'd direct from M$. The 32 was about 3.5GB and the 64 was 4.4GBish.

Big download but it's free. took a couple hours to get both.
