I have Vista Ultimate 64 bit and I am trying to install it. First of all, after Windows loads the files for installation or whatever in that gray progress bar on the bottom of the screen it takes about 7-8 minutes just hanging on that blue/green splash screen. I then am amble to choose the language and click the install now button. It then goes to the "please wait..." screen for another 5 minutes, and then I get a "A required cd/dvd drive device driver is missing" error message. I am then given the option to browse a cd/dvd or my HDD for this driver. The thing is that it wont recognize my cd/dvd drive at all even though I have just booted from it. I have tried loading some random drivers from my HDD (XP install) with no luck. Here are some other threads about the same thing, some of them claim it to be the ide controller, sata controller, and some other things. I tried flashing my drives firmware but I can't do it without getting some pci parity error or some crap (I never flashed firmware before). I don't seem to be able to find ide controller or sata drivers for my Gigabyte 965p-ds3 mobo.

I don't know it's probably my drive. Its a NEC ND-2100AD DVD+RW from an HP :D I have found one firmware that flashes it to the 2500 model which I guess is worth a try but I have no idea how to flash it. I need detailed instructions which I cannot find (not just "use the flasher and then included .bin file in realDOS" or "flasher works in windows").

EDIT:

Setting the drive as a slave drive rather than a master let me install it. Weird...
