Vista Install Troubles

I'm having some serious trouble installing windows vista. It starts out great, goes through the windows is installing stage fine, reboots, and goes on to the "completing installation, do not restart computer" part. Once there, the green progress bar goes across the screen for a while, appearing to be fine. Then it freezes. I've tried a new hard drive, an old one, etc. to no avail. Anybody else having this problem?

This is the new beta 1, (yes it is bit torrent, on dvd)

MS gives out beta software on bittorrent now? Oh wait, you're not a MSDN subscriber.

Pirates won't find any help here, sorry

Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

arrr....i plunder till the cows come home. it's only a BETA. I own a nice oem copy of windows xp pro, fresh from newegg...i was just curious as to whether people were having the same problem. I guarantee there is a plethora of people here who are downloading vista, and like most of them I will buy it when the retail version comes out. It isn't like I can walk into the store and purchase vista.

Nice rationalization.

I guarantee there is a plethora of people here who are downloading vista

Ah yes. Everybody is doing it, so it's no biggie.

It isn't like I can walk into the store and purchase vista.

No, but you could purchase an MSDN subscription and be a real beta tester. If you were, you could actually report this to Microsoft and help to make Vista a better product. Instead you chose to pirate it because you thought it would be cool, which helps no one. Run along now.

You're right, only a beta. A CLOSED BETA. The difference between you and the other people who steal the beta is that they aren't stupid enough to come to the forums and start a topic that will only get locked. Expect bannination when the mods come around.

ARrrrr

wow.

yet, a leaked IE7 (non-public) beta was posted in the same forum and no one really cared that much.

Come on, at least be consistant.

When it freezes, is your HD still being accessed? or is your computer completely idle?

I cared, and now that link is no longer active. I can't speak for the others.

Things like the MSDN vista release and IE7 release has pushed me away from Microsoft, it's generally worse than the first alpha release of GPL code .

I won't be using my MSDN account again since it's more trouble than it is worth, workarounds are already created for some things, that makes me think that most people don't even care to report back, perhaps in 5-10 service packs Vista will have all the functions and security that i have NOW.

Whatever credibility you might have had just went down the toilet.

He lost his credibility right out of the gate with this gem:

Why? I'm talking about the functuions and security i am having NOW, in a completely different OS, of course.

Is there something you don't get about that?

Actually it is true, generally, when an alpha release of a GPL coded program is released to the community it is in FAR better shape than Vista or IE7 is,.

In fact, a release such as XP would be regarded as a beta1 release in the GPL world and anyone involved in the GPL world knows this.

So, until you get that fanboi thing out of your head, just shut it on these issues.

I'm trying to figure out what you don't get about that. Not the same functions? It's a beta for developers and other testers. Security? Vista is built on the 2003 SP1 code base, so it has that baseline for security.

Is there a name to this mythical program? Otherwise this is just a troll.

Troll.

So, until you get that fanboi thing out of your head, just shut it on these issues.

And I suppose you are simply an unbiased advocate of GPL code. There are some great programs from GPL, but your comments are drivel.

I fail to see what this has to do with his credibility? It is his opinion for gods sake! And a lot of other peoples also. Every Suse alpha release I have seen is better than any MS alpha I have ever used. Hands down. Who made you guys the credibility police anyway. Your opinion is no better than anyone elses opinion. Too full of it.

I think you are the troll in this thread, the obvious MS troll, let me point you to the alpha releases of Xine, Mplayer, Amarok, Transcode, Azureus and others.

You want more? OK, let's check out all of cvs for FreeBSD, that'd be alpha, right, since it's not released beta, right, and it ALL works and has for some time.

Or how about the other CVS releases that are also pre beta releases and WAY mor stable than Vista or IE7 (which i had to completely reinstall to even remove and vista destroyed my MBR, also reported but easily fixed for me, not so easily fixed for a home user though).

You are getting pissy because i critizise your precious MS where it SHOULD be critizised, that makes you an MS troll.

If you can state WHERE in that post i questioned his credibility then it'd be nice, or in any previous posts would also be nice.

I didn't? Oh well, i guess your point is lost then.

I was agreeing with you dude!

It plsses me off when somebody expresses an opinion on this board as you did and all the opinion police pop up and try to stomp all over you because you don't agree with their accepted way of life??? Like those two A**bags did to you earlier.

Apology accepted...

You don't have to pay to beta test software for MS. MSDN is a subscription based thing where devs get the latest and greatest so that they can code programs for Windows etc.

You just have to be lucky enough to be choosen as a regular beta tester who just tests Windows for free.
