Hey guys,

Im an IT guy and right now I have a client's computer that had some sector errors and viruses and needed a vista reinstall.

So what I did was acronis to save the data and then deleted the partitions and created new ones.

Well the thing with Acer is they never gave him VISTA OS reinstall disks so I'm working off the recovery image they provided which is on the hard drive.

Problem is -- the recovery image hangs at 15% on some file called .071 and wont proceed further. The client did NOT create recovery disks (naturally) so my next step was just installing using vista product disk.

Problem there: Vista install (retail) isn't accepting the ACER product key (which is definitely valid).

There any workaround for this at this point, besides waiting 2+ weeks and paying money for asus to mail us recovery disks?

THanks in advance!

The retail software Vista will not accept the OEM Key nor will an OEM accept a retail key. You will have to get an OEM DVD to use the Acer Key or get a Retail Key to use with your Retail DVD.

An IT Guy should know this??

I did know this.

Any OEM disk or has to be acer disk?

Could you access the recovery partition with a Linux live disc and maybe burn a CD/DVD that way?
