Vista Indexing

How often does vista index. For example if I add new files will it notice that and start indexing them or does it take time and how long. Is it just better to hit rebuild index or just leave it to do it's thing? Thank you

I'd leave it to do its thing. It generally indexes things pretty much immediatley as long as you're not in the midst of a somewhat somewhat demanding task.

Vista indexes files as they are modified, generally in background mode as to not degrade performance of foreground applications. Depending on how many files you add, but the indexer should get to work quickly. If you tell it to rebuild the index it will rewrite index entries for every object that is set to be index, which would be very inefficient to do every time you add an item. You won't be able to do a "full" search during the rebuild as it wipes what already created.

You're probably not searching contextually within word docs, databases or e-mail dialog. Vista indexer really isn't about finding files themselves. Searching for files is 1990s. Searching contextually is now.
