Vista Icons for DOS programs

After 4 days of changeing / correcting / searching / cussing, I've got this idiotic operating system to half way work for me.

I wrote a couple of programs in Quick Basic that I still use and just got a computer with Vista (ugh) on it. Icons will not show up for the programs that I wrote, they are white and blank. They did show up in XP. I've tried everything. They show up in the 'Icon Change' window but do not transfer to the desktop.
Any Suggestions?
