Vista hotfix issue?

I was wondering, i've got a gadget from Vista that monitors the CPU usage for me, and they used to idle around 3-10 and no more than maybe 50 on load...since downloading the hotfix to correct the memory leak issues I was having, they seem to run around 75-99% all the time...so I'm wondering, is this because vista is actually using it, or is it for some other reason? The only games I've played on this computer so far are COF and SHIV, and they seem to run ok, but I'm worried about this thing being under load 24/7 for no reason.

Any ideas why?

I've got an Abit IP35Pro and a 2180 Oc'ed to 2.76 with the voltage up to 1.345 I think...Ram is 4gigs HP cheapo stuff @ 1.9v and a 1:1.2 mem divider I believe.

Thanks for your input

John

If you start up Task Manager and go to the Performance tab, does it show heavy CPU usage too? If so, click the Resource Monitor button and see if you can determine what's causing it.

yes, it shows the same usage under task manager...it says dwm.exe is using 54000k!!, explorer is using another 22000k, and NMindexstoresvr.exe is using 68000k...the latter is something with Nero that I can't figure out how to turn off.

any ideas?

Jump into the CPU section and see what's causing the CPU usage too, if possible.

I shut down that Nero program whatever that was, seems to be idling around 3% again...that's just weird. I've been noticing that Vista tends to have more than 3Gigs of my ram cached...I'm assuming that's typical with Vista right? i've been hearing how it caches your most common apps so they load faster...can this be confirmed?

Yeah, Vista tries to do something useful with your free RAM (cache stuff in it); this is called "SuperFetch."

Maybe check for updates for Nero too, if you haven't already

From here:

nmindexstoresvr.exe is part of Nero Scout that comes with Nero CD/DVD Burning 7. Nero Scout is a database program that catalogs all of the media files on your computer and that makes this database available to other programs in the Nero 7 product package. This process can be removed to free up system resources.

Form Nero website:

You can either disable Nero Scout completly or you can only remove the ?search? option from the task bar.

Open "My Computer", make a right click on "Nero Scout", select "options".

Uncheck the box ?enable Nero Scout? in order to disable Nero Scout.

If you want to remove Nero Scout from the task bar, uncheck the box ?Show NeroDesktop Search?.
