I was reading the spec and it doesn't show remote desktop for home premuim, but it does for business. Any one know for sure. If only Ulitmate has MCE and remote desktop then I can't order a new computer now and get the upgrade cert. since thier is no upgrade to Ultimate. They are going to make me stay with XP if thats right.
 
Don't know if it helps you any, but I remember reading a while ago that you can upgrade to any version of Vista from any previous version (Home Premium, Home Basic, Business), etc. by buying a key from Microsoft. You may not be able to get a BOXED retail copy, but I remember reading somewhere that you'll be able to upgrade for "a fee" to get the features of say Ultimate from Business for a price. After all, each version of Vista ships with the same DVD (different label), but it's all the same software, except your key unlocks a different version of the OS. I may be wrong, but I think that's how it was done... in that case you can still buy a PC, get the upgrade cert, and just pay the difference since it's probably cheaper than $400 Ultimate anyhow.

Do you happen to know where Microsoft has a chart comparing the features between editions? I've been hunting around but I haven't found it yet.

Thank you, it looks like Vista Business is practically what XP Professional is. The only enhancements I can see for Enterprise is VirtualPC and BitLocker, which aren't that useful to me.
 
yeah....since Professional was designed for business, it makes sense that Vista business is on the same level...or at least it should make sense.

Home Basic/Premium are comparable to XP Home
Business/Enterprise are comparable to XP Pro
Ultimate is not comparable to anything in the XP line.

Right on the latter 2, but Home Premium is comparable to XP MCE, in reality.
 
Yeah I guess you could say that. It's a little confusing because XP MCE is more like Pro than Home, but Vista Home Premium is clearly intended to be a home product, not a business product.
 
For instance, XP MCE includes EFS and you can install IIS. I'm not sure if you can do that with Vista Home Premium. Paul's article that is linked above seems to imply that EFS and IIS are only in Business or higher.

I've only been using Ultimate or Enterprise, so I don't know for sure.
