I just ordered a copy of Vista Home premium.
How much is the "minimal fee" to order a DVD of the 64 bit version?

$10, but I don't think you can get it with oem editions. You can always try and see what happens.

You're good to go then. I just mentioned the oem restriction because that's what many people buy :^)

Yes it is $10 and maybe you will get it with SP1 intergrated, if not don't bother asking for it. I have been down that route they will not sell you a SP1 intergrated disk! So when the Technet offer was on last month for $99 I bit and downloaded the SP1 intergrated ISO DVD image. BTW X64 is the way to go. Works great have it istalled on one laptop and one desktop.

Yes you can still get SP1 from Windows update or even other sites,SP1 does fix issues like 4GB problem with some motherboards, however personally I had no issues with 4GB installed.

You can still install the 32 bit version and use a 32 bit browser ie Firefox 3 in Vista x64.

Wierd. Maybe it's anecdotal, but Limewire for example is a java app. When I try to install it, part of it's installation is to install java if not detected. It fails. I downloaded the standalone installer from Sun, wouldnt install.

*shrug* maybe its me.

FYI I'm using Firefox 3 (32 bit versions for both Java and Firefox) and Sun Java 6 update 5( 6.0.50.13) in Vista x64 just fine, that's the beauty of 64 bit OS since it can run most 32 bit software out there.

Have you tried installing it as Admin?
